Beef Products has a "Deep commitment to hamburger safety"
Being committed to hamburger safety is just hilarious. I didn’t realize hamburgers were in danger. But the article fron the NY Times is most definitely NOT funny. Once again, here’s yet another reason to stop eating factory farmed meat.
Eight years ago, federal officials were struggling to remove potentially deadly E. coli from hamburgers when an entrepreneurial company from South Dakota came up with a novel idea: injecting beef with ammonia.
That’s just the opening sentence. This article is so full of horrors it’s really hard to believe.
… while the school lunch program will not buy meat contaminated with salmonella, the agriculture department does not ban its sale to the general public.
It’s so clear that Big Foods in this country has no interest in the overall well-being of the people who eat the dreck they produce (much less the animals they kill). Whether we are talking about CAFOs where thousands of animals live miserable lives up to their knees in their own feces, or obscene USDA subsidies of Almighty Corn (and its derivatives, including HFCS). It’s all about money. And honestly, what else would it be about? Our society is founded on capitalism which elevates the accumulation of wealth above all other altruistic ideals. Meat, Corn, Oil: the holy trinity.
